The Basics of ATV Safety

atv-safety-gear

This is a guest post from Jason Harris who is a middle-aged kid who has been riding ATVs since he was an actual kid. He firmly believes that with a little awareness and attention to detail that ATVs don’t have to be nearly as dangerous as the perception. He supports sites like www.atvcourse.com, and wishes that all new riders would invest the time in safety courses. Driving an ATV is exhilarating. It can also be quite dangerous, especially for the novice rider. For all beginners, safety training can make a considerable difference. That includes … [Read more...]

Multi-tools & Me

Multi-Tools

I admit it.  I'm a gadget man.  All shapes, all sizes, and to my detriment, all levels of quality.  One of my favorite gadget genres are multi-tools and deciphering what, if anything they're good for.  Compared to some, my collection would pale in comparison and I'm OK with that.  For me its more a matter of means rather than lack of want.  Hell, I'd like to have them all!  Doesn't every guy? My Multi-Tools From my collection of five, I've only bought one of my own accord.  My first, and the original Leatherman, was purchased way back in the … [Read more...]

Gerber Folding Spade

Gerber Spade

I can remember when my pop used to bring out his little shovel that had the tightening handle.  I'd always try to convince him that it was more suitable for me than for him (it was my size after all) but he knew better and only brought it out for a certain project around the house or out camping.  Since that time I'd always thought about picking one up at the local Army surplus at one time or another but never seemed get around to it.  That changed about a week ago. During my perusal of the Cabella's sales email I receive on a regular basis, I came … [Read more...]

Blog This Sharing a Story

The other day while I was giving a presentation on WordPress and its many uses as an educational tool to a group of faculty members at a local university interested in incorporating blogging in their teaching approach, one professor expressed a great deal of displeasure with WordPress and its apparent lack of functionality. One of the most interesting involved his pointing out that Blogger offered BlogThis and WordPress did not.  Blog This enables bloggers to cite either other blogs or websites and create a blog entry from that.  In its simplest … [Read more...]

The Uncategorized Category in WordPress

uncategorized

An uncategorized category in WordPress?  It's true, in a default installation, uncategorized  is provided to the unknowing blogger or site owner because Wordpress has to have at least one to complete an install.  Traditionally, when WordPress was thought of solely as a blogging platform, the uncategorized category was included to give users an example of how a blog post is created and organized.  And, as an example, it serves its purpose well.  Keyword here is "example".  When configuring a WordPress-based blog or website for a client, this is … [Read more...]

Seasons

Seasons

The morning's air has turned brisk as we've turned another page in our corner of the world.  Fall is here and, as the trees fade into brilliant colors, so to will the memories of summer into our reflection.  I'm glad my wife and I took the time to take the kids to the lake at least a couple times this year.  The lake, more of a big puddle really, is named after my mom's family who's history rises, in part, from the Spokane Indian tribe.  Not that this is extraordinary in any sense but this year is.  This year I lost my mom to Creutzfeldt-Jakob … [Read more...]
