Multi-tools & Me

Multi-Tools

I admit it.  I'm a gadget man.  All shapes, all sizes, and to my detriment, all levels of quality.  One of my favorite gadget genres are multi-tools and deciphering what, if anything they're good for.  Compared to some, my collection would pale in comparison and I'm OK with that.  For me its more a matter of means rather than lack of want.  Hell, I'd like to have them all!  Doesn't every guy? My Multi-Tools From my collection of five, I've only bought one of my own accord.  My first, and the original Leatherman, was purchased way back in the … [Read more...]

Gerber Folding Spade

Gerber Spade

I can remember when my pop used to bring out his little shovel that had the tightening handle.  I'd always try to convince him that it was more suitable for me than for him (it was my size after all) but he knew better and only brought it out for a certain project around the house or out camping.  Since that time I'd always thought about picking one up at the local Army surplus at one time or another but never seemed get around to it.  That changed about a week ago. During my perusal of the Cabella's sales email I receive on a regular basis, I came … [Read more...]

Removing slivers or splinters is a common First Aid task for anyone who works outside. Bothy Bag: Emergency Tent Review

Bothy Bag Emergency Tent Review

The Bothy Bag, developed and marketed by Terra Nova Equipment, is an emergency survival shelter that basically fits into the size of a pop can, depending on the size you  need.  Our test version, known as the Superlite Bothy 2, uses silicone nylon for the main shelter material and features a single pole slot in the roof and two reinforced seats.  This baby warms up fast.  And if you happen to pop this open after some intense movement, even faster. Larry, fellow co-worker and self proclaimed gear geek, was generous enough to loan me his Bothy Bag … [Read more...]

Labrot & Graham’s Woodford Reserve Review

Labrot & James Woodford Reserve

I love good booze as much as I love the outdoors and for me, the two kind of go hand in hand.  This is an older post that I never included here but finally decided to. Labrot & Graham's Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select couldn't come with more of a reputation.  The official drink of the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, and Breeder's Cup backs up the hype solidly and delivers the goods true to fashion with this revered Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey.  Delivered in a distinctive bottle, it's classy look and clean lines indicate quality … [Read more...]

Knives of Alaska Bush Camp Knife Review

Knives of Alaska Camp Bush Knife

Review of the Knives of Alaska Bush Camp Knife - For sometime now, I've wanted a "do-anything" knife that could be used in camp for a multitude of chores from general service to skinning and maybe gutting in a pinch.  Seems like I've always been one to "make do" with the knives I've carried over the years using ones I've either inherited or collected by happenstance for what I needed to get done without a whole lot of thought.  I freely admit this isn't the best approach but recently, I had my chance to remedy this situation. I turned 44 a while … [Read more...]
