Winchester Shotgun Cleaning Kit
I was making my way to the automotive section of our local Walmart when some mysterious power told me to turn right, left, and right again. I found myself in the midst of the sporting goods section, specifically the back wall where they keep all those cool little gun accessories you never think you need, until you do. Surveying all of those great little “gotta-have-it” items I saw them. Gun cleaning kits! My eyes lit up and mind raced for the perfect explanation. I’ve always made due with what I had and hadn’t actual had a proper kit for years. I kept repeating this mantra in my head in preparation for my wife’s analytical examination of my man reasoning for this additional expenditure. “Perfect”, I thought, nodding as I made my way to the next available cashier.
Manufactured by the Winchester corporation, these little kits are the typical no-frills variety that don’t fit back into the stapled together plastic packaging brought home in. But for $7.97, you get not only a sturdy 3-piece brass rod, but also 3 phosphor bronze brushes, 3 wool blend mops, 2 slotted patch loops, a shotgun adaptor and a bunch of micro-fiber absorbent patches. The kit surprised me with its quality and, even though I shoot mostly 12 gauge, it offers 20, 28 and even .410 gauge accessories which I really liked as well.
The two things I can say I didn’t like was the packaging, which offers basically no container for adequate storage. No biggie, I can make my own and it’ll be better anyway. Secondly, I dislike the plastic screw-in tip that holds the cleaning patches. I’ve broken and stripped my share of these. But again, we’re talking basics here, and for my money, it’s hard to beat. In fact, I was so happy with my shotgun cleaning kit, I went back and spent another $7.97 for my rifles. Now all I need is another excuse.

Great find. For that money you can’t complain that’s for sure.
Thanks for the comment Tim! Yea, for the average guy or gal watching pennies (most of us), it’s a great deal. I’m not much of a Walmart shopper (except for automotive oil, clay pigeons, and shotgun shells) but saving $10 per kit compared to places like Cabellas is pretty tough to ignore.
Good info Mike.

THE KIT IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT SOME KIND OF STORAGE CONTAINER. JUST BECAUSE IT IS CHEAP DOES NOT MAKE IT A GOOD VALUE.
